My (rather personal) take on the leadership hoo-ha:

As followers of this blog will recall, when Kevin Rudd won the 2007 election, I was overjoyed. Not since I was 8 years old, did I live in a world where John Howard was not Prime Minister. This was a hard thing to come to terms with. It meant that my adolescent years were spent enduring racist policies and racist hyperbolic rhetoric everywhere I went. It meant that our foreign policy was abhorrent and I was ashamed to tell people I was Australian. We lacked compassion. People voted not with their hearts, but with their wallets. It didn’t matter that because of this man, Australia was involved in a war that, as hindsight taught us, saw up to a million people slaughtered. It only mattered that the economy was tucked in to bed every night, sleeping to the sounds of money being churned out and straight into the pockets of the privileged. I may have been young at the time, but I knew right from wrong. I knew that I would never hold my head high as an Australian, so long as this man was in charge
