Cliché Murder (v)
:-: Breaking the stereotype
:-: Rejecting the tradition
:-: Dispelling the myth
I'm on a mission and it won't be pretty.
A cliché (from French) is a phrase, expression, or idea that has been overused to the point of losing its intended force or novelty, especially when at some time it was considered distinctively forceful or novel. The term is generally used in a negative context (taken from Wikipedia)
Don't get me wrong, it's nothing personal. But for every cliché that rears its ugly head, somewhere in a far off place (perhaps Sweden or Norway) a little light of hope for creativity and originality dies.
They may appear to be reliable, primarily because they are catchy and have been used before in a context that often renders some sort of reaction (either positive or negative). It is the option to fall back on when your mind goes blank and your palms start to sweat just a little too much. So you throw in a cliché or two because it works. They are nasty little buggers that, in the face of crisis or in times of need, give us something to cling to in the hope that at the end of the day, one can and will receive adulation and applause.
But by doing so we refuse to acknowledge the myriad of possibilities that await us when we look beyond the stereotypes.
So I'm setting out to kill as many as I can. Although along the way I may very well decide that there are some clichés worth fighting for.
On guard!
Disclaimer: will not be held accountable for accidentally slipping one in here and there. Oh it's just the name of the blog, for crying out loud. I am no murderer metaphorically or otherwise!
