End of an era

Disclaimer: errm...I don't actually think he's dead. So this post is rather redundant. Except for the extreme left wing propaganda feel..and on that note...DO ENJOY!

Plans for a trip to Cuba to celebrate ‘Cuba Before Castro Dies’ seem to have died in the arse amidst rumours that Castro is in fact DEAD. Such news brings a great mourning my way as Castro was the glue holding the socialist rebellion in South America for so many years. I hope that his work is not unravelled in the process of what appears to be American Imperial Invasion 101.
So what next?
Does this mean the end of the US embargo?
Or the end of independence?
It is most certainly the end of an era.
I’m also keeping an eye on our man Hugo Chavez who will most likely be more of a target now that the rebellion numbers are dwindling.
DON’T GIVE UP HUGO!!!!
And of course this reminds me of a story that Hugo told me once.
Well not me per se. A story he told to my good friend* Tariq Ali who then recounted the story to a lecture room full of keen political minds.
The story goes like this: Hugo has just been elected. There is a military coup planned for him. The temptation to give up is strong. He’s driving around the slums of Caracas when an old woman spots him and says ‘Hugo. Come here’ (as if they’re long time buddies). Hugo walks with the woman into her home and she shows him the confined space that she inhabits with her large extended family, cramped into this small space together.
‘You see those wooden chairs? Today we burn those chairs, so we can boil the water, to make it clean enough to drink and cook what little food we have. Tomorrow we’ll burn the doors on all the bedrooms. Then the next day we’ll burn the tables. We’ll keep burning everything we have. We'll keep going. We’re alright. Don’t worry about us.
'You just don’t give up’
You just don’t give up....
such potent words, perfect for a future world leader, uttered by a woman who has virtually nothing but hope in one man's ability to effectively breathe life back into her country.
How achingly beautiful.
*I'm not really friends with Tariq, this is merely wishful thinking that I exist within their large social group network as one of their close comrades. Keep dreaming Sheree
