Who says your vote doesn't count?

August 13th 2007 05:35
While the whole world is preoccupied with the debate over Paris Hilton's apparent breast augmentation or the potential creation of yet another near perfect human sprouting from the loins of Angelina and Brad, I'd like to discuss something else. VOTING. heh - okay I see it's not nearly as exciting as the openers but it is relevant given Angelina and Brad's scream fest in France over the touchy subject of voting.

But whilst everyone is interested to know what the domestic dispute involved physically and other minute and abstract details, I was more concerned with the topic of debate. Like who they're voting for. This sort of thing excites me. Okay so I think we've established that I'm a nerd.

Anyway

The time old adage that one measly vote doesn't count is so ubiquitous that it has most likely prompted people to throw away their vote.

Then there are those people who claim that the one vote (your vote) could make ALL THE DIFFERENCE.

Sometimes you see it on cheap reality TV shows urging people to cast their 'last minute vote' (because if you don't, they don't have ratings or financial backing to continue their diatribe. What a shame, sarcasm)

but what about political elections?

My uncle is hounding me to change my address on the electoral roll. Why? Well apart from the fact that I have temporarily moved out, he also believes in the strategic geographical placement of his fellow left wing allies.

According to him, my vote is useless in my mother's suburb where I grew up. The same dude will always win (I won’t name him so as to not give away my mother's location)

BUT in my new abode, I have the potential to unseat a very popular/unpopular candidate who currently runs the country and apparently my vote could make all the difference.

So my instruction is clear. Move in on the prey and attack. Voting has never been so dangerous or so deadly. It's exciting. So contrary to popular belief, your vote does count. Don't waste it. If all else fails, strike up an argument with a spouse in France that ends with the throwing of wine or the creation of a baby. But for god’s sake, don’t throw away your vote!
